My name is Jeremy and I’m a ‘non-traditional student’ studying to complete an engineering degree. I’m a sinner saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and a member of Providence Church in Garland Texas. Welcome to my blog.
My purpose in starting this blog is to collect my thoughts and notes on the theological writings that I read and things that I observe. The idea is to force myself to interact with texts and ideas beyond simply reading and contemplation. My hope is that by doing so, my understanding will be increased and that others may be edified as well.
One advantage of having a ‘scrapbook’ in this form rather than a private one of another form is that others can challenge or confirm conclusions, thought processes, assumptions, &c, and also share helpful insights and resources on topics presented.
It is also my hope that other layman such as myself will see the value in further study on the things of God. Two common assertions that I would like to see dispelled are 1) those who read the writings of men are followers of men and not Christ, and 2) “I’m not a Bible scholar”. The first is the product of either poor thinking or brainwashing. The second may well be true, but there is nothing to prevent us from becoming diligent students, and thus, scholars in the most general sense of the term.
Lastly, the postings on this blog will never be frequent enough for this site to become a daily read, but I hope to have the categories organized well enough that topics can be easily navigated and searched.
Soli Deo Gloria ~ To God alone be the glory
“there is nothing to prevent us from becoming diligent students, and thus, scholars in the most general sense of the term.”
Anyone who thinks or speaks of our Creator is a theologian, even those who deny His existence, involvement, and/or characteristics.
Thus, everyone’s a theologian, but it is incumbent on us as Christians to be “good” theologians, for that which we think & say regarding our Lord is of utmost importance, for it dictates how we live as subjects of His kingdom.
Now we see in a mirror dimly, but the light of His Word helps to illumine our darkened minds so that we may see Him more clearly. Thereby our love for Him increases, which leads to greater obedience, and ultimately to the revelation of His glory.
Keep letting your light shine, brother.
